Our Mac Puter Is Back! Double Thursday 13!

HURRAY!

We have our Mac back home and werking again! Its great...

13 REASONS WHY WE LIKE OUR MAC:

1. Its quiet.
2. The keys are soft to the touch.
3. We can read all the keyboard letters.
4. We can leave it runnin alla time.
5. WHEN we hafta turn it off, it shuts down fast.
6. WHEN we hafta turn it on, it starts up fast.
7. No security issues.
8. It is easier ta find files.
9. Programs open INSTANTLY.
10. No constant operating system "patches" required.
11. Front ports for flash pen and external hard drive.
12. Automatic backups in Time Machine.
13. "Macs For Dummies" book is really good!

13 REASONS WHY WE DON'T LIKE OUR MAC:

1. We can't change the background color on Mac applications (we like black text on celery backgrounds, for example - easier on our eyes).
2. We miss MSPaint!
3. Haven't found a good greeting card making program.
4. It isn't as customizable (to our knowledge).
5. We can't manage our photos easily. We have to load them into IPhoto to edit them, open them in Preview to resize them (which is very manual), then save them into Finder folders to arrange them by subject and date.
6. The MacPro tower weighs a TON!
7. There are 5 PC repair stores right here in town, but the nearest Mac repair store is 27 miles (45 minutes) away!
8. Our ISP doesn't like to provide support on Macs.
9. We can't seem ta get the plug-in speakers ta werk on the Mac.
10. The mail program keeps demanding we re-enter the individual account passwords (every couple of weeks).
11. We haven't figured out why Macs are sposed ta be so much better fer graphics stuff. Mebbe it is better at stuff we don't do.
12. It doesn't have a 3.5" mini disk slot (really handy for saving and copying small files).
13. It saves files in the strangest random locations.

OK, fair is fair. We expect most of our problems with the Mac is that The Big Thing spent almost 20 years learning the Windows PC stuff, and he has only had the Mac 10 months (and hasn't had to really study it too much ta get by). So we are sendin him online ta find some Mac discussion group.

But if annyone has some quick suggestions to our problems (or know of a good Mac discussion site), please tell us. We really do like the Mac better overall.

Most ISP's hate macs because most of the workers don't know anything about them! :). You can get Photoshop Elements for Mac for under a $100--it's not the newest version they have for Windows but it still works. Also Gimpshop is free. I stopped using it when I upgraded to 10.4 so quickly because they hadn't yet updated it. Google them and see what they have. They are a free version of the "real" photoshop and should do everything you want to do with pictures and more. They have online support that you can read through. I highly recommend it. If I hadn't started saving everything to the windows side of the imac, I'd use it over here.

Oh and bootcamp means you can use windows when you want it for specific things--like cheaper photo editing software. The only down side is that you do have to sit through that LONG windows boot but maybe Win 7 will minimize that (I hope). We have our financial stuff over there because I can get it cheaper (small business owner) for what I need and also for the the Photoshop Elements on that side.

Oh and feel free to email us--if you don't have our email, we do have a contact us for on my blog and the Woman is happy to chat about mac stuff versus PC stuff. Also she is jealous you have a pro because she WANTED A pro but everyone told her she only needed an imac... sigh.

We know nothing about MAC so can't offer advice.~S,S,C & F

LC, Mommy sends her sympathy to TBT, she says if giving you oral medicine is anything like giving me oral medicine TBT is very brave. I scratched eldest boy bean good (ha,ha). She seems to think the whole thing was more upsetting for her then me. That isn't logical as I am the one that had to take the bad tasting stuff. I am sorry you have to take oral medicine forever but happy that there is something to keep you well. My medicine is making me feel better but the bad Mommy will not let me go OUTSIDE. ~Charybdis

Look for free answers at macfixit.com and the forums at apple.com. Save you time, money, hassle and heartache. If all else fails, go to the genius bar at the nearest apple store. Those people are great.

Hey, girls. You know, my mom has a MacBook and doesn't use the iPhoto-for the same reasons. We use Picasa for photo management and it's very easy and user friendly. It will also import your photos from whichever file you direct it to. It has some nice photo-editing options. We also have Photoshop Elements 6 (which is the newest version for Mac) and it, too, is user friendly, although it does take some learning to use well. We also use Gmail instead of the Mac mail program-also for the same reasons. You can check all your email accounts through Gmail-it's POP and IMAP friendly. The spam filters work well, too.
