"Furs"

LC:

I haf a question fer ya all. I've been delayin this while I thought about it. The Big Thing tole me what my Gotcha Day prezzie was last week, and I'm not sure iffen I want it. So I need some advices... He says it is my decision to make.

See, I'm gettin old an I got matts in my furs. They were real bad a few weeks ago. So The Big Thing thought I would be happy if they were removed. He cant handle me around skissors too well, so he thought a pro-fessinional (as opposed to a con-fessional, I suppose) would be a good idea. Ive NEVER been "groomed" at a "grooming place".

But then, I started pullin them out myself. I'm not totally inept at groomin, ya know. I mean, I was leavin clumps out all over the place (he composts my furs, is that cool or what?)

So I'm pretty much self-un-clumped right now.

My question is, would I like bein "professionally groomed"? Is it fun? Does it feel real good after? Will I look prettier? Is there annything scarey about it? I gotta know cause TBT is gonna make an appointment inna couple days unless I tell him I dont wanna to it. He does say it is my choice.

So, should I try it?

Hey LC, My thought is that if you like visitors who come to your house and are friendly to people you don't know, then you probably won't be afraid to go. I mean, do you like the v-e-t? Some cats do. If you like your Dad to brush you, then you'll most likely like being groomed. Maybe Dad will brush you every couple of days, then you won't have to go to the groomers!?

We're unable to give advice on the professional grooming as we've never experienced it before. We're sure lots of your furiends will have great advice for you!

Only mum grooms me, never anyone else.

We think it would be pretty traumatic. I mean, what if they shave you or something?

Of course, the only sort of matty one amongst us is Kangaroo Girl, and my mom just brushes her mats out carefully. KG is not terribly fond of that, but it's better than being harassed by an alien!

We've never been professionally groomed before...so we can't really give you any advice...but if you still got some mats and you can't get them out yourself and you can find somebody who can handle cats and you want to be handled...then it might be okay...just make sure you get lots of treats afterwards...

The only cat I knew who had that done was my guardian angel and best friend and mentor ::bows head:: Jonathan. My mom knew a groomer and she went to her house so mom could help so he wouldn't freak out. He peed in the bathtub! But he was quite pleased with himself when it was all over.

This is a hard one to answer for sure. I would say if you are grooming yourself that would be easier on you. You won't hurt or scare yourself. But if don't mind a stranger around you and they are oh so sweet and gentle then maybe that would be the thing to do. Good luck.

i barely let my beans brush me, but luckily i have short short furs.

perhaps your VET can suggest a groomer that is really good and works with kitties that aren't used to being groomed? mommy knows 2 kitties of our friends who loooooooove going to the groomers cause they get loved on and spoiled with pets and treats.

Good luck!

I went through a similar situation last year LC. I had a huge mat right in the middle of my chest and I wouldn't let the PM near it. She was going to take me to the groomers but I ripped it out myself.

She was going to call our vet and get a recommendation for someone to try. I dn't know if I would have liked it though. I am a wee bit skiddish.

Maybe you won't get anymore.

I don't know about the groomers, Sweet Face. Because you haven't spent ever Thursday of your life at the beauty parlor (like my mom's grandmother), you might find yourself overwhelmed by the noise and smells and sheer spazz-ness-ness of the place. They DO put you in a crate while you wait your turn, which is NOT fun. And there are other furple there who may be a wee bit tense, which tends to permeate the atmosphere. Since you've managed to declumpify yourself, would you allow TBT to gently brush you daily? You'd have to be acclimated to being brushed..a little at a time, and only the spots that you'd let him skritch you anyway. Then, when you began to relax under his ministrations, he could move on to your more troublesome spots. And he wouldn't have to brush your whole pelt at one go...

I would HATE it. But I hate going outside, and that would require going outside. If you don't like going out and for ride and then letting strange people touch you, you probably won't like it either. But if you do...it might be fun.
