Anonymous Blocking

We are getting more anonymous spam comments these days.  Some are dubious ads for meds, some are just random weird gibberish.  We set up delayed Comment Moderation a few months ago, but having to reject some comments every day is getting to be annoying.

We are reluctant to use Word Moderation, because we find it personally annoying and don't wish to subject our friends to that.  The Comment Moderation hardly ever effects anyone but spammers.

But we are going to experiment with changing our blog to not accept "anonymous" posts.  That means, as far as we can tell by discussions on blogger forums, that none of you will notice the difference.

But if you are a friend and cannot comment, please let us know.  Our email addy is embedded in our header.  We trust you know about changing some words to the symbols...  We don't want any friend to be blocked from commenting.  But the spam comments are increasing weekly, and we have to try to stop or reduce it.

But definitely, no one can post "anonymous" anymore.  We regret that, but it may only affect the spammers (we hope).

Hiya! we're new to the blog scene and thought we'd stop by! Hopefully you won't get any more yucky spam - we haven't experienced that yet on our blog, but we get all sorts of spam emails (they CLAIM that they take us off their lists, but we still get them!)..

You are very pretty girl cats!

We love getting comments but not from spammers!

So many others are already blocking annony comments that we created a fake blogger account that goes to our non blogger site. It is easy enough to do so anyone should be able to do it.

Those stoopid spammers try to ruin everything!

Uh-oh. I think we will have to be "Mary" now even though it is really me, Spitty the Kitty.

If you are only getting those weird comments on old posts. I put on moderation only on posts older than 5 days. Now only end up with 1 or 2 comments that I have to moderate, no weirdo comments.

Hopefully, it won't be a problem and can get rid of those nasty spammers. I've been very lucky!

Re: using blogger. I know that other people have simply signed up for a blogger account. What we did was we created a blog called Chey's Place on blogger. Then under the settings tab we went in and chose to publish on a custom domain--there you can purchase a domain via google or you can go to advanced settings if you own the blog account already. We did so we to the advanced. There you just add in your regular domain and it redirects the .blogspot.com domain to the domain name you use (in our case chey.mysiamese.com)

We just did this for our gemini.blogspot domain--it is currently giving us an error message. We did this for Chey's Place about two years ago and it seemed easier!

We adjusted our blog to not accept annonymous comments and now we moderate anything over 3 days old. No spammers and mom now knows if a friend of mine comments on an old post!

We were having the same thing, though not quite to that extent about 8 months ago.
We took off the anonnymouse comment option, enabled comment moderation set to 5 days. We set it to 5 days since we don't post everyday.
Hope you are successful!

It's disgusting when one can't even enjoy blogging without being harassed with spam. Nothing seems to deter them. The Anons can get their own profile so they can leave comments but then they can also be reported as spammers.

It's unfortunate that spammers turn a fun thing (cat blogging) into something else.
