Saved Whiskers

THE BIG THING:  A couple of years ago, I started saving kitty whiskers.  That may seem odd (Am I one of the few?).  I got the idea from The Aged Cat blog (sadly, no longer active).  The person there kept her cat's whiskers in a beautiful little green bottle.  I started immediately.  Sadly, I have no such lovely little bottle, but I should look around...

But here is the bud vase I use for now.

And here are the whiskers.

It is amazing how good I've gotten at spying shed whiskers since then!

When I think of how many kitty whiskers I have vacuumed up in my life, I really wish I had thought of this myself or seen the idea sooner...

Piero, We think it is cool that he wants to keep any part of us he can, He even saves our brushed fur and the few claw sheaths we leave for the compost.

Cool, we are part of his garden!

Brian, would you like it if they did? Or would it seem strange?

Hmm, my mom just found one the other day, but all she said was, "Huh." And then she threw it away. Can you imagine? A perfectly beautiful black whisker! I'm insulted.

My mum is waiting for my one white whisker to fall out, I think.

Kitties, you asked about seeing the intruder kitty doing outside toilets and whether that counts for the competition, and I think it does, so hope over to Goldie, Shade and Banshee's blog to put in your entry. They're hosting the outdoor peeing event there. You can always enter the competitive napping contest at my blog though!

With 4 of us here, Mom finds whiskers all the time, but she doesn't save them. Maybe we should send them to you.

What a wonderful idea.
I'm going to start immediately.
I've always felt a bit wistful when I find one and just put it in the wastebasket or vacuum it up.
Too bad I've missed out on five years worth.

What a wonderful, sweet idea. The PM will have to start doing that, she does spy one once in awhile.

She does keep some of our fur though and the rest does go into the compost too.

My Mommy has been doing this for years. She doesn't have a pretty vase though, she keeps them in an envelope. She has found at least one or two from all the foster cats, and she even has a shed bunny claw!

She also has a little baggy with some fur from her old kitty, and a few of his whiskers. She misses him a whole lot since she had him for 16 years, and she likes to be able to pet his furs and think of him sometimes. His ashes are in a pretty double picture frame on the bookshelf, and there is an impression of his paw in one side, and a picture in the other.

It's not weird to want to keep them at all! Mommy just wants to remember all of us, even the foster kitties who are only here for a short time!
