Computer Problems

THE BIG THING:  Well, we wanted to post pictures of Gotcha Day presents, but we are having problems uploading pictures.  Apparently, the Mac equivalent of the Windows "Blue Screen of Death" is an endlessly spinning color wheel.  It's not quite as bad as that, but it is close.

I sometimes find that when I attempt to upload pictures, the problem freezes.  If they don't start uploading in about 4 seconds, I have to cancel fast or the spinning color wheel shows up and I can't do much even in other programs.  I can't even do a "force quit".  I can still shift to other programs briefly, but the color wheel follows me there after about 30 seconds.  It ONLY starts when I'm trying to upload pictures at Blogger, so there may be something about Blogger that triggers it.  I can only restart the computer off by the power button, and I don't think that is a good thing to do.

You aren't supposed to have to defragment a Mac, but I have a Mac Mini which (I think) uses a flash drive rather than a standard hard drive (there is no fan or spinning sounds, for example), so it may be different.  I had this problem a few months ago, and a full defrag/cache clean/"file and permission rebuild" (whatever THAT is) seemed to solve it.

So I'm going to do that again.  It takes several hours though, so I'm out of luck for pictures today.

I'll be posting a question on the Mac User Forum, and at Blogger Help.  But if any of you Mac users know anything about this, please leave a comment.  I can still read email and comments while the defrag etc programs are operating.

On behalf of Ayla, Iza, and Marley, I will say that they DID get their Gotcha Day presents last night and enjoyed them, but we will have to wait until tomorrow to post the pictures...

We have a mini too and had a friend look at it and it was soooo full it was about to crash. So, a year ago, Teri got a low end MacBook and now uses the mini as a server...does she know what that means, not really but her friend had her get an external hard drive to store backups on...or sumthin like that...

We've always defraged the Mac on a fairly regular (every few years regular) basis. We've had Macs since the first Mac came out and when Norton started offering tools we started using them. It can help alot at least with speed. However, because it's only blogger, we are wondering about Blogger doing something or as Spitty said something with your firewall/antivirus and uploading photos to blogger. The fact that it's coming back suggests that there is an issue with something in the way the photos upload on blogger--as other cats have macs and don't have that problem (and Mac minis are not that unusual) which suggests some sort of incompatibility with some combination of programming such as a firewall

We use Macs but are a bit clueless about your issue - have you tried using a different browser, such as Chrome or Firefox instead of Safari, or vice versa? If it is a problem with Blogger, it might work better (or worse) on different browsers.

Mommy use MC. too, but mom always reduced the size of the photo ( reduced to be 40 % ) and save for web, and format will be .jpg before she upload the photo.
It may help when the file of the photo is so small.

Paws crossed for you
