Weighty Wensday

MARLEY:  Well, with all that food we all saw yesserday, and that we get canned food 4 times a day, we thought we better mention that we got weighed again...

Iza - 14 lbs
Marley - 12.5 lbs
Ayla - 9 lbs

Now thats probly good fer Ayla an she has stayed the same weight a couple months now.  She was only 5.5 lbs all those years when she was goin into heat alla time.  Tiny was cute, but probably not the right weight.

12.5 lbs is OK fer me as a mancat at 19 months.  I'll probably top out at about 14 lbs.  TBT says Skeeter reached 16 pounds (of pure muscle) but also that he was longer an taller than me, so that makes sense.

But Iza...  Oh she was fat at 12 lbs an her nickname was "Pudge" then.  An now 2 more lbs.  I don't mean ta say she is like one of those superfatcats that look like basketballs with baseball-size kitty-heads, but when she walks down the hall, she does roll a bit from side to side.

I "walk", Ayla "prances", Iza "waddles".

TBT says he finds a diet fer Iza hard to manage.  She eats her bowl, I eat mine, Ayla eats 1/2 of hers an wants to finish it later.  Naturally, Iza eats Aylas other half.  He tried putting her other half up high where Iza cant get to, but than I eat it.  He tried putting her food up so high that neither she nor I could get there on our own, but he never knows when Ayla wants to finish her meal an she jumps down from ANY height iffen she isnt ready to finish.

An he isnt quite ready to lock her in the mewsroom until she eats her other half.  She just yells an rattles the door.  It would be easiest iffen there was some food Ayla liked but Iza an I didnt, but Ayla is the picky one.  I like most canned foods an Iza would eat sawdust iffen it had gravy on it.

Any suggestions?

Oh, we feel your pain, Iza. We all have to 'starve' cuz of Disco. But we finally found something that is working for everyone! We are feeding a Zero Carb dry food that Teri can leave out all the time (we likes that!) and we get canned food twice a day and a little raw, too. We don't always clean up the canned (unless Teri 'treats' us to Fancy Feast, hahameow)so TomTom gets our leftovers. Disco weighed in this week at 15#, so he has dropped 19 oz since the beginning of March.

We fortunately eat pretty closely here. While one or two cats might be slightly fat so another cat is a good weight it was never so much that we had to worry. What about giving Ayla "treats" (or extra food) in her dish a few hours later in a closed room while the other cats get a play time?

Oh no! You reminded mum she hasn't weighed us lately so she just did it. We have been on a diet with me, Flynn, being sneaked extra treats because I don't need to lose weight.
Eric has put on 1.2 lbs and I have put on o.4 lbs. Looks like goodbye treats!!!

We has the same problem here. Mommy had been buying diet catfood with L-Carnitine in it for Scylla.

Supposedly L-Carnitine, is proven to help reduce body fat and helps your overweight cat burn up to 6% extra body fat and maintain lean muscle mass. (People use it too for various stuffs).

She does seem happier and more playful. Scylla is the picky eater so Mommy has to gives her stuff she likes to eat. Arty generally finishes off everyone else's foods. Mommy hasn't figured out away to keep us out of other siblings foods. Scylla will even eat Fenris dog food.

Since I'm the little one in the family, and picky besides, I get fed separately from the others. I get my meals on top of the cat tree, while the other two are fed in the kitchen. I never finish, and when I want more, my human usually locks Binga (the main food stealer) in another room while I eat. It's only a few minutes and then I am done for a while (it takes me multiple passes to finish a 3-oz can of food, if I decide to finish it at all - sometimes halfway through I decide I'm bored of it and my human has to open another can). As you can see things are kind of complicated around here. I don't know if that is much help - it is probably more discouraging than helpful!

Buddah gets fed on the counter because when he was little he ate slow and I would finish mine and then finish his...it was easier to feed him up there, and someone had to stand and watch.

Now he eats fast but he still eats up there because it's what everyone is used to.

The Woman says if one of us didn't finish, she would hide the food in the microwave for a while, and then later feed the kitty it belongs to when the other one is somewhere else sleeping, or someone would get a tiny treat while the other was finishing.

If i get a treat, I eat it and walk away, so if Buddah was eating real food on the counter I probably wouldn't notice.

One of us is really fat. You can decide for yourself which...

As the resident big boy, I say it's impossible to manage a diet with the five of us!

We kinda have the same problem here...Wally eats all his food and then wants to eat mine. I eat mine most the time, but sometimes I leave some to snack on later. If mom doesn't put my food away, Wally will eat it. And Wally is getting fat now.

We are pretty lucky around here now. Neither me or Kozmo is hefty or eats too much.
Licorice did has a weight problem though. Mommy would feed us in the morning and then puts the food away. At night when she came home from work, she would put me on the counter while she made the people's dinner with more foods for me.
We had diet kibble to nibble during the day and eventually Licorice lost the extra weight.
Good Luck!

Unfortunately, no. Oui Oui is our slow picky eater. The mom puts her food where she can keep an eye on it while she's getting ready to go to work. Usually Oui's done by then. If not, someone else claims it.

The Human used to have that problem with the two boys before me but she nefur solved it. Sigh.

She wonders if maybe you could put Iza in another room while Ayla gets a second chance at her food?

Me, I think every kitty should get all the fudz they wants.

Mom says we've always had that issue with Madison. He's always been a big boy....huge. At one point he weighed 18 pounds, but settled in at 16 pounds. Mom figured he has been happy so let him be what he is. He'll be 16 years old in May so mom says that's pretty good. Iza, if you are happy and healthy...go for it!

Maybe everyone should get a half portion, then a few hours later, another half portion? I don't know, we don't have that problem. they both leave stuff behind and they both eat out of each other's dishes when they walk away, the goofballs..
