Chair Tent Fun

MARLEY:  TBT keeps the other chair covered with a sheet.  Today he draped it in a way that made a little tent.  That was really neat!
I crawled right in...
Turned around a few times...

And hid!

Then I napped fer a while.
When I crawled deeper unner the sheet, Iza noticed the movement an ran up ta check it out.   I jumped up an said "BOO"!
I caught her COMPLETELY by surprise.  HA-HA-HA!

Mancat Monday

MARLEY:  Ayla jus levitates up the kitty condo; Iza jumps carefully level by level.  Im a dedacated claws-climber!  TBT says that iffen I was a Bein, I would climb rock walls using hand/foot holds.  Mebbe, but Im glad I got my claws!

Oh, TBT found my collar.  It was lost a couple days, but it was unner a shrub...  Im actally glad ta have it back.  Srsly, I like the little bell!

Oops, Not So Easy Like Sunday!

AYLA:  Wow, we sure went all dumass on our posts yesserday!  We did several neat post-worthy things the night before, and wanned to put them on separate days so we could jus chillax over the holiday weekend, but we forgot the "schedule" part of the process.

MOL @ ourselfs!

"WHAT WAS THAT" was indeed for Saturday.

"I'm Loved" was sposed to be "Easy Like Sunday", ON Sunday, as Sparkle correctly observed.

"Eating Ungracefully" was sposed ta be fer Memorial Day cuz we know Beins start the eating season of outdoor cooking then an we had eatin photos from Friday.

It is all TBT's fault, partly!  Iffen he had been watchin us as we posted like he is SPOSED ta do instead of trying the get his sheets through the laundry cycle all late and stuff so he could go to bed, this wouldnt have happen.

But its Iza's fault mostly.  She insisted that "Iffen we wanna publish the posts, we gotta hit "Publish Post", DUH?"  I was sure there was somethin else, but couldnt amember what.  An Marley isnt esperienced at this stuff.  When we got up in the mornin, I thought, "Hey, we dint tittle the Sunday post right an went ta change it.  Thats when we saw they were all posted.

Marley an I both gave Iza our lazer beams eyes right away and then called TBT over ta fix it.  He looked at all the comments and decided we should jus leave them be.

We are makin her wear the "dumb collar" all day today!

[IZA:  Oh, please, dont look at me wearin this]
And we are glad ta say she seems properly embarased about it!  That will be shame enouf...

We now go back ta bizness as usual.

Eating Ungracefully

Some days, we fail the "graceful test".

I'm Loved

MARLEY:  Iza is my best friend!  For Easy ike Sunday, she licked me all over my head...
She is so nice to me.
As good as a Sunday gets...

Hey guys, wake up!  Look!
What, some moth on the door?
WOW!  That's BIG!
What WAS it?  It wasn't a possum.

Or a skunkie!
TBT:  That was a raccoon, guys...  An ya don't wanna mess with them.  That's why ya stay inside at night!

Iza:  Um, Ayla stayed outside a few nights ago...

TBT:  Yeah, and she was lucky.  That thing would have ATE HER!   There MIGHT just have been fur left on the ground!  HERS!

All:  UTB!!!

Houston, We Have A Problem...

THE BIG THING:  Well we did not have a good 48 hours here at Mark's Mews!  Marley lost his collar, Iza barfed twice, the shelving rack I am assembling is missing 2 pieces and otherwise becoming more of a project than I expected, the printer died, the groundhog I trapped and then humanely released outside of the fence is back inside.  My 'Cavebear's Lair' blog refused to add uploaded photos for a day.

But all that pales...

Ayla got outside Wednesday afternoon and did not return until a couple hours ago!

There is a history to this.  LC basically taught Ayla how to get over the fence.  Both would stay out for an hour, then come home when called.  But last year, after Iza joined us, Ayla would stay outside the fence (but close to it) for 2 nights at a time.  The last time, Iza chased Ayla over the fence as if she was an intruder.  I had to spray Iza with the garden hose to get her to back away.  Ayla stayed close to the fence, but outside for 4 days.  At that point, when she finally returned, Ayla became an indoors cat.

I do not understand this at all.  Indoors, they sleep together, eat together, and nap on my lap together.  They groom each other. Outside, something is different...  Last year, Iza chased Ayla over the fence twice.

But I have successfully kept Ayla indoors for about a year now, while Iza and (very recently)  Marley went outside.  Iza and Marley can go outside in the big fenced-in backyard because they show absolutely no interest in getting over the fence.  Probably because they can't.  That's good, because I am outside a lot and I like to have my friends outside with me.

It isn't easy managing the deck door cat-traffic.  Iza or Marley want to get in or out, sometimes in opposite directions.  I always watch Ayla carefully, tapping my foot in front of her to back her away.  But it all went wrong yesterday...

Iza was in, and wanted out.  Marley was out, and wanted in.  Ayla was across the room, sitting quietly.  I opened the door so Marley could get in and Iza out.  They usually enter and leave quickly.  But Iza and Marley blocked each other with Marley's head just in the opening.

I saw Ayla rush the door.  I couldn't shut it on Marley's neck, so I swiped a hand toward Ayla.  Just as Iza got in the way...  Ayla hopped over both of them like a gazelle, and she was out on the deck. Marley ran inside and Iza backed away;  I walked calmly onto the deck and tried to get Ayla back inside, but she hopped off the deck and ran straight over the fence!

You would think that, being inside for a year, she would be interested in the yard.  To stop and sniff things, nibble some grass, sniff the mouse holes.  No, she went straight over the fence.

I heard the bell on her collar jingling while I was outside yesterday, but I couldn't see her.  At least she was staying close by the fence.  There is an area between me and 3 other neighbors that stays wild.  She likes it there.  She doesn't go near the road (and it is a very low traffic dead end street).

She was 4 days out from her recent heat cycle (the first in 2 1/2 months!), so she was safe from that kind of unwanted attention.  But I couldn't help worrying.  There are owls, there are loose dogs.  She MIGHT wander too far away to find home this time.

I didn't sleep the first night.  Literally, I stayed up til dawn, calling outside about once each hour.  Slept from 8 a.m. to Noon...  Last night, I slept solidly, just too tired to call her all night.

Around lunchtime, I glanced outside, and it looked like Iza was out on the lawn.  It definitely wasn't Ayla, too light-colored.  Then I saw Ayla a few feet away!  I shut the bedroom door to keep Iza and Marley inside and opened the deck door.  Then, I could see the other cat was a light ginger.

When he saw me, he trotted away and Ayla chased after him.  Dammit, she went back over the fence again!  Fortunately, a few minutes later she hopped back up on the fence and walked along it for a while.  I got quietly to within 20 feet and just stood there for about 10 minutes talking to her.

FINALLY, she decided to join me and came over.  When she started to purr, it was safe to reach down and pick her up.  Inside, I fed her and stood next to the cat tree until she hopped up there.  I scratched her for about 15 minutes until she decided she wanted to nap.  I got her into the Mewsroom and closed the door so that she would have some secure time after I let Iza and Marley out of the bedroom.

As soon as Ayla was out of the Mewsroom, Iza attacked her!  I separated them and soothed Ayla again for a while.  An hour later, she did it AGAIN!  This time I had the spray bottle at hand and gave her a couple of good shots.

While they usually get along, there is just something about Ayla that Iza does not like!  She doesn't attack Marley like that, ever.  I think Iza would like to be an only cat, but she does really like Marley...  Maybe it is because Ayla runs from Iza and Marley doesn't, but that might be either WHY Iza attacks or BECAUSE Iza attacks.

Equally, I don't know whether Ayla started to stay out longer because I began to keep her inside or because she wanted to get away from Iza.   She stayed out overnight a few times before Iza arrived, but the multiple night episodes started shortly after Iza arrived.   I often see Iza staring at Ayla intently.

At least she is back inside again.  For now.  I don't know what will happen next...

UPDATE:  Oh, BTW, TBT is moaning about his plant light stand project iffen ya wanna read about it over here...

We dont see what he is so annoyed about.  Its not like his time is worth annything when he isnt payin attention to US!  An he is tryin ta grow veggables!  Who cares?

Bookshelf Explorin

AYLA:  I love gettin up in the bookshelfs!  One shelf has fishies onit.  They are "siamese fighting fish" so they get there own places ta swim.  They dont look very "fighty" ta ME!  But iffen TBT takes away the cardboard between them, they get all big and they display at each other.  Which IS kinna cat-like, so I like them.
Thats why I like ta get up here sometimes an watch them.  They ARE kinna fearless.  They come right up ta me an stare.  The fishies in the BIG tank all swim far away from me.
But also, I just like ta slink aroun in tight places up high where Iza an Marley cant get to!

Oh, BTW, see all those DVDs on the shelf below?  TBT loves ta watch science stuff.  Can ya find the one what ISNT sciency?

AYLA:  Marley an I were wrasslin yesserday.  He is getting bigger an stronger, so it is harder an harder to win.  As ya can see by the identical holds, he has learned many of my techneeks!
But I managed ta get him on his back with his paws raised in surrender.
He cheated a bit by whappin me after I let him up.  So I had ta chase inna nother room and make him surrender again!
See?  I cornered him onna windersill with his head lowered!  That'll teach him not ta surrender, whap, and run...

BTW:  Weights:
Iza: 12 pounds, same as for about a year.
Me:  6 pounds, up 0.5 since last month.
Marley:  9 pounds; he has gained almost a pound a month since he got here!  I hope he stops gettin bigger soon.  TBT says he wont.

MY Shoe Rack!

AYLA:  I was SO annoyed!  The shoe rack is MINE.  Mine, Mine, Mine!

He got up onto the middle shelf (barely).
Thankfully, he wasnt quite sure what to do with himself up there, and couldnt figure out how to get to the next level.  An odd hole in the wall distracted him.
I think he thought it was a moth, but it dint move.
So he hopped down.  My sanctuary is safe!
But I worry.  Every week he gets a little better at climbin.  What if he gains the skill ta get ta the 3RD Level?

Nappin Together

AYLA:    I nap with Iza lots lately.  But ya gotta watch out fer her.
 When she sleeps...
She farts!
Wakes me RIGHT up...  Fortunately, the windows were open an there was a breeze going through!

Garden Tour Thursday

IZA:  OK, Marley had his big dedicated week (extended courtesy of the Blogger crash) but its over.  Its MY turn again!
As you can see, we are in a transition time this week.  The Spring flowers are gone, the Summer flowers are just gettin started, and the veggies are just beginning their season.

Here, in the far back what is all overgrown with tree saplings and big weeds (hint to TBT), we have a Weigela 'Carnaval'.  Its neat cuz it has white, pink, and red flowers all over it.  It is just startin ta bloom.  Wait til ya see it NEXT week!
Next to it are 3 Weigela "Red Prince'.  It will be bloomin better soon too.
The Clematis 'Arctic Queen' has a first bloom...
The Clematis here behind the compost barrel really blooms a lot!  And its been bloomin like this a couple weeks.  The ground is always shaded and the clematis plants sure like THAT!
The Trollius are startin too.   They get more goldish later.
We dont remember the name of this one.  The label is long gone and this is the last survivor of 6 plants.  Pity, cuz it gets COVERED with pretty yellow flowers.

Marley has put out his first host buffet, and I have to say, it is a good one.  He has brought out FIVE kinds of treats, milk, toona juice, AND Fromm Chicken/Turkey Pate.

Marley, "well done".  I will even partake of that...  Join me in a great after-tour snack up on the deck.  Nom, Nom, Nom!

Oh, TBT says you can see about the veggie garden HERE.
