Hey guys, wake up!  Look!
What, some moth on the door?
WOW!  That's BIG!
What WAS it?  It wasn't a possum.

Or a skunkie!
TBT:  That was a raccoon, guys...  An ya don't wanna mess with them.  That's why ya stay inside at night!

Iza:  Um, Ayla stayed outside a few nights ago...

TBT:  Yeah, and she was lucky.  That thing would have ATE HER!   There MIGHT just have been fur left on the ground!  HERS!

All:  UTB!!!

Yikes, a raccoon! We're glad you were all indoors and safe!

We've only seen one once, about a year and a half ago. Our grandpa was visiting from the west coast and the mom was up early, as usual. We were out in the back space and it was still quite dark out. The mom heard a noise and went to look, and there was a huge raccoon on top of the then-angled fence lattice. (We have a different containment structure on the fence now.)

Well, you should have heard the mom screeching, calling for her dad to wake up and turn the water on, so she could turn the hose on the raccoon. Hahahaha. It was SO funny! By the time that happened, the raccoon had ambled off and down a tree anyway!

So that was our one and only raccoon adventure. :-P

P.S. She likes raccoons, but she was worried it would get down into our space and that things would turn nasty (just to clarify).

A raccoon got into the should-be-catio here once! The humans thought it was very cute, but that it definitely did not belong there!

We get those big fellows on our deck at night too! So far Zolie has been safe but the cat that lived next door was attacked by one once. Tore up his back furs and he was real sensitive there for the rest of his life. Real bitey & hissy. Zolie is a feral though and she has "street smarts."

Those raccoons get into everything, including other peoples' business...let's hope he stays away from now on.

The Human says: Long ago we lived in Mill Valley out in the boonies. The raccoons would come right up on the deck outside the glass dining room doors and when we'd try to shoo them away, they'd stand up on their hind legs and look at us, as if to say, "You talkin' to ME??"

They were B-I-G!

Raccoons are not to be trifled with! When Scarlett was still an outdoor kitty, I saw one that was roughly the size of a small bear (ok, maybe not that big). That is when Scarlett became an indoor kitty!
