Snakey Saturday

We don't see snakeys very often, and ours are generally harmless.  In fact, except fer one snakey TBT thinks might have been a cottonmouth several years ago out front in the drainage ditch, we dont have them.

But they still scare us some.  We saw this one just a couple days ago...
TBT says they eat moles.  So, "GO SNAKE"!

  1. We haven't seen a snake up close before and Mommy says that's exactly how she wants it to stay.

  2. When we were younger we were allowed out in the fields on our own and I would often bring back snakes to my mum. One day I brought back a poisonous viper (adder) and mum hit it over the head with a 14lb sledgehammer. Then Eric started wandering off to our neighbour's farm so we weren't allowed out unaccompanied anymore, so that put paid to that.

  3. My human loves snakes, and knows how beneficial they are. She would never harm one intentionally - in fact, if she were sure it was non-poisonous, she would probably try to pick it up.

  4. This is where I caught one of my snakes. Seems mum's memory played tricks on her because that was not the poisonous one. The poisonous ones were a nest of baby vipers that I found a different time.

  7. We have plenty of snakes here. Since we stay inside, it's not usually something we see, though we did catch one in the kitchen once, which caused a huge fuss. Be glad you don't have snakes in the kitchen. The head peep still won't look under the fridge for our lost toys.

  10. We know we have plenty of snakes as our area is wooded, but luckily we've only a handful of encounters in the 20 years we've been here.

  11. Snakes - ick! Many in Australia are poisonous, so it's best to keep your distance.

  12. Our mommy saw all her cats encircle a rattler when she was home from college for summer break in texas. Lotsa caterwauling, then our granddad shot it to keep the kitties safe. (We had one bitten by a rattler once - rushed him to vet for antivenin, which all texas vets have - and he survived! Lost all his furs though :(

  18. We have rules for snakes:

    1. You can't live at our house cuz our Mom's afraid and can scream like a banshee.

    End of rules.

  19. Oh I am glad we don't see them here because I would hate that. I have held them in Australia but that was controlled. You be careful around them .

  20. What interesting stories from all of you. Didn't realize there are so many snake-likers. Jan would go ballistic if she found one in the house.
