MARLEY: 2011 Thanksgiving Dinner was bad. TBT took me to a strange house with a angry cat in it. She hissed and spit. I stayed hidey.
The ladycat of the house was NOT friendly.
I hid. Well, I WAS barely 1 year old...
After that, TBT promised me he would never drag me a strange place again. And he never has.
But TBT liked the visit.
No, he isn't in the pictures.

Heaty Mat Tuesday
IZA: We sit on it, but is is not as warm as we want.
Mostly, it is just a cushion near TBT.
We want our old one back!
TBT says we should be patient. Good things come to good kitties if they are patient.
Huh?
If TBT says "wait", I will wait.
"Warmish" is warmish, but not truly "WARM.
Ayla agrees. She says this could be better.
She stretched on it briefly...
And left it.

Mancat Monday
MARLEY: The deck door is open, but not enough for us to get out on the deck. TBT does that sometimes. He wants to check outside to make sure it all looks safe. And he normally tries to be outside when we are and he wasn't ready yet.
But sniffing the air is interesting and we like that.
On the other paw, we dont want to spend all day just sniffing!
Fortunately, TBT came out wearing his heavy furs and opened the door for us to join him in the yard. It was a good time. We ran around while he was there, came back to him for strokes and scritchies, and then ran around again. And we liked that he wasn't using anny noisy machines. He just spent time outside with us doing quiet things until we were ready for mealtime.
Iza was purrfectly happy napping inside.
And even better, he swept all the leaves off the deck. I hate walking on them. They make noise and that offends my sense of stealth.

Easy Like Sunday
MARLEY: I was enjoying a nap on the heaty mat. Ayla and Iza were waiting for TBT ta sit down in the TV-watching chair. This heaty mat replaces a really good one we had before. Its "warmish", but only 83F. The old one was 90F and we loved that a lot better.
TBT says he has a surprise for us soon. A 2nd heaty mat, un-purrfectly-warmish as it might be would be good. He says he can't buy the old one, so we take what we can get.
Well, at least a 2nd barely-warmish one would help. As ya can see, there is a line waiting for me to get off.
If TBT would just sit down, one of us would be on his lap. IT is about 90F.
We have asked him many times to turn the house heater to 90F but he won't go for THAT. Says he would melt or something. THAT would be inneresting to watch. And we would have the whole house PROPERLY warm. But then there would be a feeding problem...
Annyway, it was a pretty comfy day.

The No-Turkey No-Ham Thanksgiving
THE MEWS: Well, dint get real turkey or even ham for Thanksgiving Day! On Thursday, we thought mebbe we got the day wrong, but it dint happen yesserday either. So we all sat on the otto-man last evening and stared at TBT. He KNEW what the problem was, so he had ta explain.
Afterwards, we meowed among ourselfs and decided it had just the right blend of care and Being-dumbness to be true fer him. An here is his story...
He went out hunting fer turkey Monday. He dint want a whole turkey (them things are HUGE), but wanted turkey thighs. We arent sure how that works, but mebbe he gets together with other hunters and they catch one and chop it into pieces to share. Annyway, he came back with thighs but threw them away. And then threw away some ham. We were afraid he was losing his mind (such as it is, but we trust
TBT: STOP! This is impossible for The Mews to explain, so I will just take over...
Monday I went shopping to buy turkey thighs. There were only 2 packages left and neither was as chilly as I would have liked. But I put the colder one in my cart and looked at the whole frozen ones. I could thaw a small one by Thursday. But I decided that a whole one was too much (and I don't like most of the other parts). And I was concerned about the safety of the package of 2 thighs. So I went to put the thighs back.
I guess I got distracted, because I still had the thighs in my cart at checkout and didn't think about my initial concerns. Arriving home, I was annoyed to realize I had bought them. But I figured if I cooked them right then, they would be safe (and thighs stay moist up to about 185F). So I cooked them.
Later, I decided it was stupid to take a chance with them and put them into a special box in the freezer that I keep meat waste (skin, steak fat, etc) to put in the garbage the night before pickup. And I did so knowing I had a center cut 1/2" slice of ham to use instead.
Thanksgiving Day, I pulled out the ham. The package was marked "use by Sept 10th". Yikes! So I added that to the freezer trash box...
Which left me pulling out some chicken thighs I had cooked and frozen the week before. And they weren't exactly traditional American-cooked thighs. This batch was from a N African recipe with shallots, lemon wedges and green olives. Sounds weird, but "try it, you'll like it". I like it.
The rest of the meal was standard stuff. Smashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and butter, seasoned green beans, etc. Not much The Mews would like though. So they got canned minced turkey and a promise...
I'll buy (properly-chilled) turkey thighs next shopping trip. I'll bake 1 my way (brined in apple juice, cinnimon sticks, cloves, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger) and 1 plain for The Mews. And hope they will forgive me for the delay of the feast...
I now return control of the post to The Mews.
THE MEWS: him to know about food safety. We mean, its not like he eats grass and throws it up or hacks up hairballs or sometimes eats a bug he shouldnt have. Not that it actually bothers us to walk around a spot where one of us has tossed up a half-digested cricket, but we do notice he never hacks up stuff like that himself, so he KNOWS stuff, ya know?
And he promised us we will get REAL turkey next week! Maybe even gravy... And by "gravy", we mean real turkey juices, not that paste some Beins make.
That sounds pretty good and we will wait.

Freaky Friday
AYLA: On Werdless Wensday, I was considering napping on the plant rack towels. There are 2 of them for our use, but that makes it tricky for me. I naturally like napping up high, but that is the rack Iza naps on and I dont especially like her scent where I nap. AND she is meanly possessive.
The bottom rack is where Marley naps and I dont mind his scent at all, but I dont like napping at floor level.
So I was thinking about both spots... But I ended up napping on the waterybed.

Mancat Monday
MARLEY: Be prepared to witness serious grooming. I was out in the backyard and this is the time of year when those awful sticky-seeds are there.
TBT pulls them off me (thank TBT), but he isnt really good at keeping furs straight, so I have to do sonme serious grooming afterwards.
Face...
Mouth...
Eyes...
Gotta get the paw clean...
Then the arms...
My sides...
Time to rest...
But also some toesies for the Beins reading here...
Gotta try ta please everyone. I'm a good mancat.

Easy Like Sunday
MARLEY: TBT keeps added padding to the top of our TV-watching chair. He says that is so he can lean his overly big heavy head back. But I know better.
The inch doesnt help him anny, but it makes some difference to ME!
So he has to be doing it just for me. And so that I can lick his head-hair in more comfort. I like doing that.

Caturday Saturday
IZA: Zonked Again! I trust TBT when on his lap. No harm can possibly come to me there.
So I surrender to Deep Sleep. It is a rare safe thing for cats. We normally have stay 1/2 alert. Do I look 1/2 alert to you?
Utterly not.
In fact, TBT is worried about me when I am so deeply sleeping on his lap. He touches me softly to bring me to 1/2 waken before he makes the slightest move.
And ya know what he tells me after? I was twitching my paws like I was chasing stuff. He thinks we cats dream, sometimes, just like he does (and I know about him dreaming because he twitches around too). The difference is that he does it every night several times, but I only do it every few nights.

Flashback Friday
Well, what was going on years ago today? Let's find out...
In 2009, LC was enjoying a strange little cathouse...
In 2012, we we all sleeping in a row...
And in 2013, Marley was up on the toolshed roof!
Ah, the good Old Days...
-----------------------
And we probably should have mentioned yesterday that the heaty mat plug that broke apart isnt just a regular electric plug, but one of those adapter plugs that changes AC into DC.
You can even see the old plug parts still stuck in the extension cord. They just came right off...
